Betty Owens Watts

March 18, 1931 — November 26, 2022

Macon

Betty Owens Watts, 91, of Macon, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 26, 2022. A memorial service honoring Betty’s life will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 6611 Zebulon Rd., Macon, on Monday, December 5, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers for Betty, please remember her by sharing some blossoms or a plant with a friend.

Betty was born in Middlesboro, Ky, to her loving parents, Edith and Wayne Heath. In addition to her parents, Betty’s grandparents, Sherman and Nancy Chasteen, played a large role in her upbringing and helped shape her life. Her grandfather was her school principal and later mayor of the town. He encouraged Betty to always be her best. She valued and admired his example and tried to live her life accordingly.

Betty was married for almost 40 years to her husband, Wesley Owens, who was transferred from Kentucky to Macon to manage a local furniture store. They enjoyed Macon together until Wesley’s death in 1989. A few years later Betty met Charles Watts, of Macon, and they were married in 2003. Betty and Charlie were able to spend 14 years together, often cooking and hosting dinner parties in their home for their church groups. Charlie preceded her in death in 2017. Working for many years for the Macon/Bibb County Cherry Blossom Festival was one of Betty’s greatest delights. She enjoyed being part of the Festival’s early development and was always a highly enthusiastic supporter of its success.

Betty is survived by her sister, Ann Kelso, Macon, her nephews, Michael Bennett, Atlanta, and Joel Bennett, Upland CA, and by her niece, Anne Bennett, Powell, Wyoming.
