Doris J. Vann

April 25, 1927 — August 7, 2021

Macon

Doris J. Vann, 94, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior peacefully Saturday, August 7, 2021, from her residence at Carlyle Place in Macon, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late William Medford Johnson and Maude Horne Johnson. Doris was born in Deerfield Beach, Florida and called Deerfield home most of her life. She enjoyed her travels around the world, and especially the special years she spent in Australia. Doris became a hair stylist and for many years owned her own successful salon on the beach. A talented vocalist, she shared her special gift with friends, family, and most faithfully, at her church where she was a favorite soloist. She also sang with the Boca Raton Symphony Orchestra. Even in her last days, music brought great joy to her life.

Doris moved to Macon in 2006 to be close to family. During her years in Macon, she was active in the Northminister Presbyterian Church, The Morning Music Club, the Carlyle Choristers, and The Amazing Grace Bible Fellowship.

Doris always showed love and concern for others, and was generous in all ways, including her frequent expressions of love and appreciation. Her sunny disposition and her unfailing sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her.  She is survived by nieces and nephews, W. Robert Johnson (Sheila) and Julie J. Atkinson (Harold), both of Macon;  Donna Swan (Bob) of Maryville,TN; Bill Randall of Pleasantville, NJ; Joanna Urchisin (David Ash) and Jon Urchisin (Cathy), both of Deerfield Beach; and special friend and caregiver, Shirley Jones.  A private family service is planned and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Carlyle Place at a later date.

The family requests that donations in her memory be made to The Morning Music Club, 330 Wesleyan Dr., Macon, GA 31210 or to the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, 315 College St., Macon, GA 31201.
