Fannie Wood Marchetti, 98, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Born on March 12, 1927, in Queens, New York, Fannie was the daughter of William and Mary Wood. She grew up in the Ridgewood section of Queens, where she attended Grover Cleveland High School before earning degrees from Queens College and Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing. Her lifelong friendships from nursing school remained a cherished part of her life.
Fannie began her nursing career teaching and practicing at several New York hospitals. In 1953, she married Joseph Marchetti, and together they raised two children, Ann and Paul, first in Ridgewood and later in Mineola, NY. While working at Nassau Hospital (now Winthrop-University Hospital), she earned her master’s degree in Hospital Administration from C.W. Post, LIU.
After Joe’s passing in 1980, Fannie moved to Macon in 1982 where she served as Director of Nursing at Coliseum Park Hospital. She retired in 1992 but continued to lead a vibrant life filled with friends, volunteering, reading, book clubs, and the loyal company of her beloved dog, Frosty.
Known for her sharp wit, practicality, and independence, Fannie embraced every era of her 98 years—from the Great Depression to the digital age—with curiosity and grace. She treasured her many friendships, including her dear friends and neighbors at The Gables at Wolf Creek and fellow church members at First Baptist Church of Christ. Her family is deeply grateful to those who enriched her later years.
Fannie was predeceased by her husband, Joe; daughter, Ann Mintz; sister, Ann McMurray; brother-in-law, Mac McMurray; and niece, Mary (Mimi) Lyons. She is survived by her son and his husband, Paul Marchetti and Matt Motley; son-in-law, Eric Mintz; nephew, Locke McMurray; five grandnieces and grandnephews; and dear friend and “adopted daughter,” Nancy Fullilove.
In keeping with Fannie’s wishes, no funeral service is planned.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice, the staff at The Cottages on Wesleyan Assisted Living, and Sunshine Sitters for their compassionate care.
Those wishing to honor Fannie’s memory may make a donation to the First Baptist Church of Christ, Macon, GA.
