Marie Bonner Bailey

Marie Bonner Bailey, age 80, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She passed peacefully after a brief illness.

Marie was born on December 10, 1944 in Macon to Reese and Eva Bonner. She grew up in Macon, Georgia where she attended A.L. Miller High School, graduating in 1963. She continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University in 1967 and a Master of Education from Georgia College in 1975.

On April 8, 1966, Marie and Hoyt married in Aiken, South Carolina and together they shared 59 years of love and partnership. They raised two daughters, Bess and Anna, who were the joy of her life.

Marie was a dedicated educator and the Department Co-Chair of Special Education at Central High School where she was known to be an advocate for all students. Outside of the classroom, she loved traveling, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her husband Hoyt, daughters; Elisabeth Holmes (Bill) and Anna Wyatt (Matney), grandchildren; Will, Reese, Trevor and Landon, her brother, Cleve Bonner and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reese and Eva Bonner and her sister, Marjorie Homan.
