Roger William Brooking

Roger William Brooking, 81, of Forsyth, Georgia, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025.

Born March 19, 1944, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to E. L. and Mildred Brooking, he was the younger brother of Ernest Lynwood Brooking III, his twin, as well as an older brother to twins, Emerson Dean Brooking and Jean Brooking Weatherford. Roger dutifully served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Navy. Upon his return, he went to work for the family business- Crown Candy Corporation in Atlanta, Georgia. He later moved with the company to Macon and served as its Vice President of Production until his retirement in August of 2001.

He met his wife, Gerri Barber, at his chiropractor and friend’s office in June of 1975, and in March of 1977, he married Gerri and her four sons! Their daughter, Meredith’s arrival followed in January of 1978 and in March, the sons proposed that Roger adopt them. He, of course, agreed and became the proud father of four sons and one daughter.

Roger is preceded in death by his son, Kevin Barber, as well as his twin brother, Lyn, and sister, Jean. He is loved, survived, and missed by his wife of almost 50 years, Gerri; their sons, Howard “Tracy” Brooking (Elena); Brian Brooking (Tamara); Robert “Greg” Brooking (Adrienne); and daughter, Meredith Brooking Green (William D.). Additionally, his grandsons, Alexander William Brooking; Alex Nappier; Roger William “Will” Brooking; Adrian Peter Brooking; Michael Armistead Brooking; Sergiu Rusu; Igor Rusu; granddaughters, Gabrielle Elizabeth Brooking; Olivia Valentina Brooking; Anabelle Quin Brooking; Gillian Nappier; and one great granddaughter, Lily Campbell.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If you would like to honor Roger, please plant or save a tree, feed the hungry, enjoy a motorcycle ride in remembrance, or just hug any of the above.
