Thomas Lamar Lawson (Tom Cat) 82 of Albany GA, passed away suddenly July 16, 2022, of complications with COPD, in Macon Ga.

Thomas was born February 6, 1940, in Jackson GA  He was predeceased by his parents A. L. Lawson and Ruth Pipkin and his siblings Dana Lawson and Beatrice (Lawson) Gilley.

Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and retired in 1977.  Thomas was a decorated veteran who served several tours of duty in the Vietnam conflict as a combat photographer in support of operations in theater with both the Navy and Marine elite forces.  His commendations include the Air Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with 5 Battle stars) and numerous other commendations.

Thomas loved to play golf at Riverpointe Golf Club in Albany, Ga. where he got his nickname.  He also enjoyed the company of Veterans and the many friends at the club.  He was an avid reader of philosophy, history, and a scholar in his own right.  Always learning and expanding his knowledge.  When asked how he was doing on any day he was quick to answer, “Fair to midlin”.

He is survived by his children Warren Lamar Lawson, Jefferson Urey Lawson, Alethea Marie Lawson, Teresa Kay (Lawson) Hencely, Margaret Daphne Lawson, Joseph McKinley Lawson and 6 grandchildren.
